Žumpa je finančná pasca. Priemerná štvorčlenná rodina naplní žumpu za 4 až 6 týždňov. Jeden vývoz stojí 80 až 150 € v závislosti od lokality. Ročne to znamená 8 až 12 vývozov, čiže 600 až 1 200 €. Koreňová čistička odpadových vôd vodu čistí priamo na mieste a vypúšťa do prostredia. Ročné náklady sú len servisná prehliadka za 60 až 120 €. Za desať rokov prevádzky ušetríte 5 000 až 10 000 € v porovnaní so žumpou.

Bežná ČOV si vyžaduje 1× týždenne prevádzkovú kontrolu, priebežné dopĺňanie baktérií a 1× týždenne kontrolu kalu. K tomu spotrebúva 365 až 730 kWh ročne, čo je 100 až 200 € za elektrinu, plus baktérie za 50 až 100 € ročne. Koreňová čistička funguje gravitačne bez čerpadla a kompresora. Baktérie v koreňoch rastlín sa rozmnožujú samé, nemusíte ich kupovať ani doplňovať. Žiadne mechanické časti, žiadne náhradné diely, žiadne prekvapenia na faktúre.

    Natural process in 4 steps

How does a root sewage treatment plant work

Bez elektriny, bez chemikálií, bez vášho zásahu. Celý proces čistenia odpadových vôd prebieha prírodnou cestou.

    1

Mechanical pre-treatment in a septic tank

Wastewater flows into a three-chamber septic tank, where solid particles are separated from the liquid by gravity.
    View details

Water gradually passes through baffles into the next chambers, where remaining solid particles are further removed. With the ECOver version, this process operates purely by gravity without electricity (requires sloping terrain), while with the ECOkocka version, electrical energy is required for the blower. The septic tank needs to be cleaned once every 1 to 2 years, costing approximately €60 to €80. The pre-treated water then continues to the reed bed filter, where biological treatment takes place.

    2

    Biological treatment with bacteria

Billions of bacteria live on the gravel bed, breaking down organic pollution. They multiply naturally, so there is no need to replenish them.
    View details

These microorganisms break down proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and other organic compounds. This is a fundamental difference compared to conventional biological WWTPs, where you have to regularly purchase and replenish bacteria. In a constructed wetland wastewater treatment plant, the process runs continuously, 24 hours a day, without any intervention. The system works automatically and reliably all year round.

    3

    Root filtration by plants

Wetland plants (reeds, cattails) absorb nutrients from the water, and their roots aerate the substrate. The treatment takes place naturally, without chemicals.
    View details

The root system permeates the entire gravel bed, creating an extensive network that traps remaining impurities. Plants absorb nitrogen and phosphorus from the water and use them for their growth. At the same time, the root system aerates the bed, creating optimal conditions for both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The result is highly effective treatment in the constructed wetland without any chemicals. In the ECOver version, it operates gravitationally completely without electricity, while the ECOkocka version requires minimal electrical power for the blower.

    4

    Discharge of treated water

The treated water meets legislative limits. You can discharge it into a watercourse, infiltrate it into the ground, or use it to irrigate the garden.
    View details

The quality of the treated water reaches the parameters required by Slovak legislation under Government Regulation of the Slovak Republic No. 359/2022. The ability to use treated water for irrigation is an additional economic benefit. You will save on drinking water for watering. A domestic wastewater treatment plant thus not only treats wastewater, but also provides a source of service water for your garden.

Frequently asked questions about wastewater treatment plants

How much does a wastewater treatment plant cost?

Our ECOKOCKA SET 6EO reed bed wastewater treatment plant in the gravity version starts from €3,050. The pumped variant costs €5,249. Installation (€1,200–€1,800) and project documentation (€300–€500) must be added to the equipment price. The total investment ranges from €4,550 to €7,550. Compared to the total 10-year cost of a cesspool (€8,500–€15,000), a wastewater treatment plant is clearly the more economical choice. The exact price depends on the specifics of your land plot; contact us for a non-binding quotation.

What are the monthly operating costs of a wastewater treatment plant?

Monthly operating costs of a reed bed wastewater treatment plant are practically zero. A reed bed WWTP operates without electricity and without replenishment of bacteria, which eliminates the two largest regular expenses. The only cost is an annual service inspection for €60–€80, which translates to €5–€7 per month. For comparison, a cesspool costs €50–€100 per month for emptying, and a conventional biological WWTP costs €15–€25 for electricity and bacteria.

How long does it take for the investment in a treatment plant to pay off?

If you are switching from a cesspool to a wastewater treatment plant, the annual savings are €500–1,080. The difference in the initial investment between a cesspool and a WWTP is approximately €2,000. The investment therefore pays for itself in 3 to 5 years. Once the investment is paid off, you save €500–1,000 per year over the entire lifespan of the treatment plant, which is 20–30 years. Total savings over its lifetime can reach €10,000–25,000.

Are there subsidies for a wastewater treatment plant?

In Slovakia, there are several subsidy programs for wastewater treatment plants. The Environmental Fund of the Slovak Republic provides subsidies for municipalities. Some municipalities have their own subsidy programs to support the construction of individual WWTPs. The subsidy amount ranges from 30 to 75% of eligible costs depending on the program and location. We recommend inquiring at your local municipal office about current options.

What permits do I need to build a treatment plant?

To build a wastewater treatment plant, you need a water permit from the relevant district office, department of environmental care. Along with the application, you submit project documentation, a hydrogeological survey, and statements from relevant authorities. In some cases, a water structure notification is sufficient. The entire process takes 4–8 weeks. As part of our "turnkey treatment plant" service, we handle all permits for you.

    Show 5 more questions
How long does the installation of a wastewater treatment plant take?

The installation of a reed bed wastewater treatment plant takes 3–5 working days. The first day is excavation work, the second day is septic tank installation and reed bed filter construction, the third and fourth days are plant planting and pipe connections, and the fifth day is inspection and commissioning. The entire process from order to commissioning usually takes 2–3 months, including design and permit processing.

What is the difference between a cesspool and a wastewater treatment plant?

A cesspool is a sealed holding tank that only collects wastewater without treating it. You must empty it regularly at a cost of €600–1,200 per year. In contrast, a wastewater treatment plant treats the water and discharges it into the environment. Operating costs are €60–120 per year. In the long term, a WWTP is economically more advantageous, more eco-friendly, and more convenient. The only advantage of a cesspool is the lower initial price, but within 3–5 years this difference balances out.

Is a treatment plant worth it for a family house?

Definitely yes. A wastewater treatment plant for a family house is the best investment in property infrastructure. In addition to financial savings of €500–1,000 per year compared to a cesspool, it also increases property value. Buyers prefer houses with a WWTP over houses with a cesspool. The investment pays off in 3 to 5 years, and after that you only save money throughout the system's entire 20–30-year lifespan.

What are the servicing costs for a wastewater treatment plant?

An annual service inspection costs €60–80. Septic tank sludge removal (once every 1–2 years) costs €60–80, which translates to €30–80 on an annual basis. Total annual service costs are therefore €60–160. With a reed bed treatment plant, you do not need any spare parts because the system contains no mechanical components. For comparison, servicing a conventional biological WWTP costs €150–250 per year.

Can I buy a wastewater treatment plant in installments?

Yes, we offer the option to purchase a wastewater treatment plant in installments. Installments can be spread over 12–60 months. For a treatment plant priced at €3,050 and an installment period of 36 months, the monthly payment comes out to approximately €90. That is less than what most families pay for cesspool emptying. So the treatment plant "pays for itself" – the installments are lower than your current cesspool costs.

    Who is ECOKOCKA for

From a small family house to a municipality with 2,000 PE. Ideal for homeowners without access to public sewerage, as well as for holiday cottages and cabins where conventional treatment plants fail due to irregular wastewater inflow. ECOKOCKA covers the entire spectrum — from the smallest installations to municipal and community projects.

    🔧

    Maintenance and winter operation

A root-zone wastewater treatment plant requires minimal maintenance. An annual service inspection, sludge is pumped out once every 1 to 2 years, and plants are cut back once in the autumn. Our root-zone treatment plant can also handle regular cleaning detergents — it is not a limitation as with conventional activated sludge plants. It works reliably even in winter. Our installations in Liptov handle temperatures down to minus 15 °C.

    ⚖️

WWTP versus cesspool versus septic tank

A root-zone wastewater treatment plant purifies at 90 to 95% with operating costs of 60 to 120 EUR per year. Over 10 years: WWTP 5,150 to 6,550 EUR, cesspool 8,584 to 15,184 EUR. Clearly the most cost-effective choice.

    Detailed guide

Waste water purifiers for family houses in Slovakia

Kompletný prehľad v siedmich bodoch pre každého, kto zvažuje koreňovú čističku.

    📈

Why households switch to a reed bed treatment plant

A domestic wastewater treatment plant is a one-off investment that pays for itself within a few years. Cesspool emptying prices are rising, and municipalities are tightening inspections. The Water Act requires proof of legal sewage disposal. Fines reach up to three times the fee.

    📏

    Right size

One PE = 150 liters per day. For 4 to 6 people, the 6 PE model. Slight oversizing can handle visitors. An oversized wastewater treatment plant for a small household will not function properly; the bacteria will die off without enough nutrients.

    ⚖️

    Constructed wetland versus conventional

A conventional WWTP requires electricity for the blower. During a power outage, the bacteria die off. The ECOver version operates gravitationally completely without electricity (requires sloped terrain). The ECOkocka version uses minimal electrical consumption for the blower. Both are constructed wetlands — lower costs, longer lifespan, no chemicals, and no need to replace bacteria.

    💰

    What the price includes

The total investment in a constructed wetland wastewater treatment plant ECOKOCKA including installation and project design is EUR 4,550 to 5,350. A cesspool costs EUR 8,500 to 15,000 over 10 years. A constructed wetland amounts to EUR 5,150 to 6,550 over the same period — including operation and maintenance.

    📋

    Permits step by step

Project design, hydrogeological assessment, application (EUR 33), final inspection approval. It takes 2 to 4 months. As part of the turnkey treatment plant service, we take care of everything for you. We communicate with the authorities; you just sign.

    🤔

    Most common concerns

A constructed wetland does not smell, is quiet, and works year-round. Wastewater (15 to 20 °C) warms the substrate. Gravel provides insulation. In Liptov, they work even at minus 15 °C. Odor, noise, cold — these are just myths.

    Practical information

What you should know before buying a sewage treatment plant

Odpovede na otázky, ktoré si kladie každý, kto zvažuje prechod zo žumpy na koreňovú čističku.

    📏

What kind of plot you need

ECOkocka requires an area starting from just 3 m² — we introduce it as the smallest root-zone treatment plant on the market. ECOver requires an area from 6 m². For a complete set (with connection, septic tank, planting), a slightly larger area is needed. ECOver requires sloped terrain for gravity-flow mode, whereas ECOkocka works on flat land as well. We will assess the groundwater level and exact dimensions during a free site inspection.

    ⏳

    Lifespan and reliability

A plastic septic tank lasts 40 or more years. A reed bed filter has no mechanical parts that could break down. Gravel does not decompose, and plants regenerate. Compare this to a conventional biological treatment plant, where the blower lasts 5 to 8 years and costs €200 to €400. With a reed bed treatment plant, these expenses do not exist.

    💧

    Treated water and its use

The outlet water meets statutory limits. You can use it to irrigate lawns, flower beds, and fruit trees. It is not drinking water, but it is excellent for everything in the garden. In the summer, when drinking water is the most expensive, you will save tens of euros more each year on tap water consumption.

    ⛔

What must not end up in a wastewater treatment plant

Chlorine-based bleach (Savo), aggressive cleaners, paints, thinners, and motor oils. Common eco-friendly dishwashing, laundry, and floor cleaning detergents are completely fine. Standard toilet paper decomposes without issues. Wet wipes and sanitary products do not belong in a wastewater treatment plant.

    🏠

Wastewater treatment plant and property value

A house with a functioning wastewater treatment plant is more attractive on the real estate market. Buyers know how much it costs to operate a cesspool. In addition, the reed bed filter complements the garden. Wetland plants bloom from spring to autumn, creating a habitat for butterflies and dragonflies. Aesthetics that a cesspool can never offer.

    💵

    Subsidies and financial support

A reed bed wastewater treatment plant is cost-effective even without a subsidy. The Environmental Fund of the Slovak Republic announces annual calls to support water supply and sewerage infrastructure. Subsidies are primarily intended for municipalities, not individuals. However, some municipalities purchase treatment plants for their residents. Inquire at your local municipal office.
