The natural and compact wastewater treatment system ECOKOCKA brings the benefits of the latest innovations in constructed wetlands for use in low-flow systems, such as family houses or small businesses.
Constructed wetlands are known as reliable and sustainable wastewater treatment systems and have been successfully used on the market for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, as well as water from agricultural production. Applying one of the latest innovations – an aerated reed bed – has largely resolved the footprint requirements of the system. Additional oxygen supplied to the system can increase treatment efficiency up to ten times and reduce the required area by up to six times.
Aeration of the reed bed ensures high capacity and smooth operation of water treatment and provides greater treatment flexibility under irregular loading. ECOkocka makes this breakthrough technology accessible for family houses and other properties with low wastewater flows, while maintaining the advantages of constructed wetlands, such as low energy requirements, robustness, and easy maintenance. ECOkocka blends naturally with its surroundings and has minimal environmental impact. Its modular structure allows direct and easy adaptation to treatment demands as well as potential expansion.

How does ECOkocka work? Wastewater is led into a septic tank, where solid particles settle while separating from the layer of floating matter. From the septic tank, water is routed into the ECOkocka system. The ECOkocka tank is filled with filter media in which plants take root. Bacteria multiply and grow on the surface of the porous material and on the plant roots as a biofilm. They feed on pollutants from the wastewater that flows through the reed bed. The plants create a natural habitat for bacteria; the bacteria thrive here and do not need to be artificially replenished. The water treatment process is accelerated and optimized by introducing oxygen through distribution piping located at the bottom of the tank. The relatively long retention time of wastewater in the tank prevents sludge accumulation because excess sludge is consumed by the bacteria. The natural environment around the plant roots and the combination of aerobic and anaerobic processes create high bacterial diversity in the reed bed. These can even break down difficult-to-degrade substances, such as pharmaceuticals or contraceptives.
Compared to conventional small activated sludge treatment plants, the energy consumption of the ECOkocka system is substantially lower because it requires less aeration. The system requires only one inspection visit per year. Given that no excess sludge is produced, only sludge from the settling tank needs to be removed periodically. This means operating costs and total lifecycle costs of the system are very low.
The standard-sized ECOkocka system serves five to six people. The system is modular, and multiple tanks can be connected in various ways to achieve the proper treatment capacity for your requirements. ECOkocka comes with an electric controller featuring an alarm function for the pump and blower.
