The ECOKOCKA natural and compact wastewater treatment system brings the advantages of the latest innovations in constructed wetlands to low-flow applications, such as family homes or small commercial premises.

Constructed wetlands are renowned as reliable and sustainable wastewater treatment systems, widely and successfully used for municipal and industrial wastewater as well as agricultural runoff. By applying one of the latest innovations – the aerated root zone – the system's spatial footprint requirements have been largely resolved. Additional oxygen delivered to the system can increase treatment efficiency up to ten times and reduce the required surface area up to six times.

Aeration of the root bed ensures high capacity and smooth wastewater treatment performance, providing greater treatment flexibility during irregular organic or hydraulic loading. ECOkocka makes this breakthrough technology accessible for detached houses and other properties with low wastewater flows, while preserving all the benefits of constructed wetlands such as low energy demand, robustness, and simple maintenance. ECOkocka blends naturally into the surrounding landscape and has a minimal ecological footprint. Its modular design enables straightforward adaptation to specific treatment requirements, including future expansion.

How does ECOkocka work? Wastewater is led into a septic tank where solid particles settle and are separated from the floating scum layer. From the septic tank, water flows into the ECOkocka system. The ECOkocka tank is filled with a filter medium in which plants take root. Bacteria colonize and grow on the surface of the porous media and plant roots as a biofilm. They feed on pollutants contained in the wastewater as it percolates through the root bed. The plants provide a natural environment where bacteria thrive, eliminating the need to add external bacterial cultures. The wastewater purification process is accelerated and intensified by introducing oxygen via distribution piping located at the bottom of the tank. The relatively long retention time of wastewater within the tank prevents surplus sludge accumulation, as excess sludge is digested by the bacteria. The natural environment surrounding the plant roots, combined with aerobic and anaerobic zones, fosters high bacterial diversity within the bed. These organisms can break down even recalcitrant substances, such as pharmaceuticals or hormonal contraceptives.

Compared to conventional small activated-sludge WWTPs, the energy consumption of the ECOkocka system is substantially lower because it requires significantly less aeration. The system requires only one inspection visit per year. Since no surplus activated sludge is generated, only the primary settling tank requires periodic emptying. This results in very low operational and overall life-cycle costs.

The standard-sized ECOkocka system serves five to six people. The system is modular, allowing multiple tanks to be coupled in various configurations to meet your specific treatment capacity needs. ECOkocka is supplied complete with an electric controller featuring alarm functionality for the pump and blower.
