The natural and compact wastewater treatment system ECOKOCKA brings the benefits of the latest innovations in constructed wetland wastewater treatment plants for use in low-flow systems, such as detached houses or small commercial operations.

Constructed wetlands are renowned as reliable and sustainable wastewater treatment systems and have been successfully utilized in the market for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment as well as for agricultural wastewater. Applying one of the latest innovations – an aerated root bed – has largely resolved the issue of spatial footprint requirements. The additional oxygen introduced into the system can boost treatment efficiency up to ten times and reduce the required area up to six times.

Aeration of the root bed ensures high capacity and continuous treatment operation while providing greater treatment flexibility during irregular loads. ECOkocka makes this breakthrough technology accessible for family houses and other properties with low wastewater flows, while preserving the key advantages of constructed wetlands, such as low energy demands, robustness, and simple maintenance. ECOkocka blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings and has a minimal ecological footprint. Its modular structure allows straightforward adaptation to treatment capacity requirements and potential expansion.

How does ECOkocka work? Wastewater is fed into the septic tank, where solids settle out while separating from the scum layer of floating solids. From the septic tank, the pre-treated water enters the ECOkocka system. The ECOkocka tank is filled with a filter medium in which plants take root. Bacteria multiply and grow on the surface of the porous media and on the plant roots in the form of a biofilm. They feed on the pollutants present in the wastewater flowing through the root bed. The plants create a natural habitat for the bacteria; the bacteria thrive here and do not require artificial replenishment. The water treatment process is accelerated and enhanced by oxygen supplied through distribution piping located at the bottom of the tank. The relatively long retention time of wastewater within the tank ensures that no excess sludge is produced, as the sludge is continuously consumed by the bacteria. The natural environment around the plant roots, combined with aerobic and anaerobic processes, fosters high bacterial diversity within the root zone. These microorganisms are capable of breaking down even persistent substances, such as pharmaceuticals or hormonal contraceptives.

Compared to conventional small activated sludge WWTPs, the energy consumption of the ECOkocka system is substantially lower, as it requires less aeration. The system requires only one service inspection per year. Since no excess sludge is generated, regular pumping is required only for the sludge collected in the primary settling tank. This ensures that operating expenses and overall life-cycle costs remain exceptionally low.

The standard-sized ECOkocka system serves five to six persons. The system is modular, allowing multiple tanks to be joined in various configurations to achieve the appropriate treatment capacity for your requirements. ECOkocka is supplied with an electrical controller equipped with an alarm function for the pump and blower.
