The natural and compact wastewater treatment system ECOKOCKA brings the benefits of the latest innovations in constructed wetland wastewater treatment plants for use in low-flow systems, such as single-family homes or small businesses.

Constructed wetland wastewater treatment plants are known as reliable and sustainable wastewater treatment systems and have been successfully utilized in the market for treating municipal and industrial wastewater as well as agricultural runoff. By applying one of the latest innovations – an aerated reed bed – the issue of the system's large footprint has been largely resolved. Additional oxygen supplied into the system can increase treatment efficiency up to tenfold and reduce the required area up to sixfold.

Aeration of the reed bed ensures high capacity and continuous treatment operation while providing greater treatment flexibility under irregular loading. ECOkocka makes this breakthrough technology accessible for single-family homes and other facilities with low wastewater flows, while retaining the benefits of constructed wetlands such as low energy demands, robustness, and simple maintenance. ECOkocka blends naturally into its surroundings and has a minimal environmental footprint. Its modular structure enables direct and simple adaptation to treatment requirements as well as potential expansion.

How does ECOkocka work? Wastewater flows into the septic tank, where solid particles settle and are separated from the floating scum layer. From the septic tank, water is conveyed into the ECOkocka system. The ECOkocka tank is filled with a filter medium in which plants take root. Bacteria spread and grow on the surface of the porous material and on plant roots in the form of a biofilm. They feed on pollutants from the wastewater passing through the reed bed. The plants provide a natural environment for the bacteria, allowing them to thrive without the need for artificial replenishment. The water purification process is accelerated and streamlined by supplying oxygen through a distribution pipe network situated at the bottom of the tank. The relatively long retention time of the wastewater in the tank prevents sludge accumulation, as excess sludge is consumed by the bacteria. The natural environment around the plant roots and the combination of aerobic and anaerobic processes foster high bacterial diversity within the reed bed. These microorganisms are capable of degrading even persistent substances, such as pharmaceuticals or hormonal contraceptives.

Compared to conventional small activated sludge treatment plants, the energy consumption of the ECOkocka system is substantially lower because it requires less aeration. The system requires only one inspection visit per year. Since no surplus sludge is generated, only sludge from the settling tank needs to be emptied periodically. This ensures that operating costs and total life-cycle costs of the system remain very low.

The standard-sized ECOkocka system is designed to serve five to six people. The system is modular, and multiple tanks can be connected in various configurations to achieve the appropriate treatment capacity for your requirements. ECOkocka is supplied with an electrical controller equipped with an alarm function for the pump and blower.
