The natural and compact wastewater treatment system ECOKOCKA delivers the benefits of the latest innovations in constructed wetland wastewater treatment plants for use in low-flow systems, such as single-family homes or small businesses.

Constructed wetlands are renowned as reliable and sustainable wastewater treatment systems and have been successfully used in the market to treat municipal and industrial wastewater as well as agricultural runoff. By applying one of the newest innovations—an aerated root bed—the issue of extensive area requirements has been largely resolved. The additional oxygen introduced into the system can increase treatment efficiency by up to tenfold while reducing the required surface area by up to six times.

Aeration of the root bed ensures high capacity and smooth operation of water treatment, providing greater flexibility under irregular loads. ECOkocka makes this breakthrough technology accessible for family houses and other properties with low wastewater flows, while preserving the key advantages of constructed wetlands, such as low energy requirements, durability, and easy maintenance. ECOkocka blends naturally into the surrounding environment and has a minimal ecological footprint. Its modular structure allows for straightforward and simple adaptation to treatment capacity requirements as well as future expansion.

How does ECOkocka work? Wastewater is fed into the septic tank, where solid matter settles and is simultaneously separated from the layer of floating solids. From the septic tank, water is directed into the ECOkocka system. The ECOkocka tank is filled with filter media in which the plants take root. Bacteria spread and grow on the surface of the porous material and on plant roots as a biofilm. They feed on contaminants from the wastewater flowing through the root bed. The plants create a natural habitat for the bacteria, allowing them to thrive without the need for artificial replenishment. The water treatment process is accelerated and optimized by introducing oxygen via distribution piping located at the bottom of the tank. The relatively long retention time of wastewater in the tank prevents sludge accumulation, as surplus sludge is consumed by the bacteria. The natural environment around plant roots, combined with aerobic and anaerobic processes, creates high bacterial diversity within the root bed. These bacteria can break down even hard-to-degrade substances, such as pharmaceuticals or contraceptives.

Compared to conventional small activated sludge systems, the energy consumption of the ECOkocka system is substantially lower because it requires less aeration. The system only requires one inspection visit per year. Since no excess sludge is generated, only the primary settling tank sludge needs to be removed periodically. This means that operating costs and overall life-cycle costs are very low.

The standard size ECOkocka system serves five to six people. The system is modular, and multiple tanks can be interconnected in various configurations to achieve the appropriate treatment capacity for your requirements. ECOkocka comes supplied with an electrical controller equipped with an alarm function for both the pump and the blower.
