What is the difference between a cesspool and a wastewater treatment plant?

A cesspool is a sealed holding tank that only collects wastewater without treating it. You must empty it regularly at a cost of €600–1,200 per year. In contrast, a wastewater treatment plant treats the water and discharges it into the environment. Operating costs are €60–120 per year. In the long term, a WWTP is economically more advantageous, more eco-friendly, and more convenient. The only advantage of a cesspool is the lower initial price, but within 3–5 years this difference balances out.
